There is Still a Lot to do in China -
Not Only for Dogs and cats

A bitter taste – The Chinese government reacted most coldly to media reports and world-wide protests against the terrible maltreatment of animals in that country. A lot must be done – and not only as regards dogs and cats. China is a long way away but – as people who campaign for animal rights we must also - look over the edge of the bowl – into these far distant countries, then large numbers of animals live, and die, in these countries merely to meet the demands for furs, leather and other animal products on our markets.

Our Plea …

Buy no furs or products with fur irrespective of the type of fur involved. Whenever there is an alternative, avoid leather even when, foe some of you this appears rather abstract; there is often a lot of animal pain behind the production of leather – even when it does not happen on our doorstep.

Our Plea ...

Write to the Chinese Embassy in your country. Please be extremely polite as otherwise you letter will go straight into the wastebasket thus defeating the object. Mention your respect for the ancient culture and the importance of this large country. However, in this context demand the immediate introduction of animal protection legislation – for all animals.
